“The unmarried [person] is anxious about the things of the Lord, how to please the Lord. But the married [person] is anxious about worldly things, how to please his [spouse], and his interests are divided” (1 Corinthians 7:32–34).

 Catholic Connection

One of the greatest gifts the Church offers everyone, including single Catholics, is a place in which to belong. The beauty of our faith is that Jesus loves us unconditionally and endows each and every one of us, whatever our state in life, with a unique set of gifts. Single Catholics, for example, can devote themselves more fully to God’s work here on earth or explore a vocation to the priesthood or religious life.

For those singles who have never been married or are widowed or divorced, there are ways to connect with other Catholic singles.

Single and previously married adults, 35 and over, can find common ground through Catholic Connection,
a social group sponsored by the Family Life Office. This group offers opportunities for companionship and spiritual growth. Events include a monthly Mass followed by a dinner or brunch out, hiking, local tour excursions, a dining-out group, and a book club.

The office also sponsors a Singles: Relationship Skills 101 course, presented by Healthy Relationships 101. This course is open to everyone, 18 to 98 years old, and focuses on communication, expectations, relationship attachments, and more. If interested in signing up for the Singles: Relationship Skills 101 program, you must fill out this form.

In addition, a Nurture Your Love program is available to couples who are dating, engaged or married. Couples will learn how to better communicate, acquire conflict management skills, healthier intimacy, better spirituality, and managing finances. This six week interactive program is available at various times throughout the year. Visit the events page for an upcoming Nurture Your Love event. To sign up for one, you must fill out this form in addition to registering on our "Book Online" page.

Dating, engaged and married couples are invited to 6 date nights with the "Nurture Your Love" program. Come and learn more about Communication Skills, Conflict Management Skills, Healthy Intimacy, Spirituality, and Managing Finances. This interactive program will be six consecutive Tuesdays, Jan. 23, 30, Feb. 6, 13, 20, and 27. The cost for the entire program is $30 per couple for all six weeks. Childcare is available. To register, contact Yvette at: yduran@archdiosf.org or 831-8117.

Some of us find ourselves single again after the loss of a spouse. Losing a person with whom you’ve spent a lifetime can be devastating and the sense of loneliness is very real. If you have lost a loved one by death, hope awaits you through several parish-based grief support groups. The groups meet two to three times a year, for 10 to 12 weeks. Support groups include:   Seasons of Hope and Living through Loss. Click here for a schedule of upcoming grief support group sessions.

For those who have recently gone through a divorce, there are several parish-based, 10-week
Divorce Recovery Support Groups and a monthly Beyond Divorce Café that meets every last Saturday of the month. For upcoming dates, visit our calendar of events.

Contact your parish or the Family Life Office at 505-831-8117 for more information.
